We provide support and information to those affected by endometriosis

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page!

I have had symptoms of endometriosis since I was 9 years old. For most of the time I have been relatively unaffected. Twice in my life, once at 21, and again at 32, I noticed a gradual build up of problems and realised something was seriously wrong only when I collapsed and needed surgery. I've lost many many months over my life to this disease, mainly because of poor diagnosis and treatment. We need more research to understand the causes and to find a cure.

I decided to participate in this Cuba trek challenge for several reasons:

1. Hardly anyone knows about endometriosis. Because it's a 'women's problem', it can be difficult to talk about and people can become embarrassed. I want to have an excuse to talk about it and raise awareness - maybe if more people knew what it was and how much women suffer, there would be more pressure to find good treatments and maybe even a cure! 2. I want to raise money for the Endometriosis Society. They do vital work in keeping this illness in the government's agenda and in supporting women with this condition. 3. I welcome the challenge of getting my health and fitness to a level where I can complete the trek. At the time of writing, in mid August, I still can't walk more than about 1 1/2 hours without having to rest because of the pain. I want to work hard to get fit and well enough! Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: National Endometriosis Society will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Many thanks for your support. I can't do it without you.

Over 1.5 million in the UK have endometriosis and the impact of the disease is for some devastating, yet diagnosis takes on average 8 years. With your donations we are turning this around, raising awareness, providing support and information, supporting research, and campaigning for change.
