Story

This Month I’m taking Part in the Great Curry run at St Gorges School in Harpenden with an aim of raising as much money as possible for the ABF (The soldiers Charity).  All participants entering this event have a nominated soldier’s name to represent, who sadly lost their life whilst serving in Afghanistan.

March last year I deployed to Afghanistan myself as Part of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Search Task Force, along with other soldiers from,“23 Pioneer Regiment”

Whilst out there on Friday 4May my team and I received the devastating news from our Task Force that there had been an incident, a mortar rocket attack in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province involving members of our regiment. Two good friends, CPL Andrew Roberts and PTE Ratu Silibaravi were killed as a result of this attack which also left several other soldiers severely injured.

I have requested if I can run in this event in Harpenden on April 27 in memory of Cpl Andrew Roberts known to the regiment, friends and family as Ginge, who died almost a year ago to the day of the event.  I have known Ginge for almost fifteen years and during this time he has always been a great friend to me. He was a larger than life character with a great sense of humour, who is greatly missed by everyone who knew him, none more so than his family in Middlesbrough, his girlfriend Paula Ewers and his three beautiful children, Jessica, Kyle, Kayla who he adored.

I understand that money can be tight for people at the moment but if you could even sponsor me as little as a pound, any contribution will be greatly appreciated in helping me hit my target of £200
