About two years ago I learnt about the Shanti Bhavan Children’s Project thanks to a Netflix documentary called “Daughters of Destiny” which follows the lives of a few Dalit children (of the “untouchable” cast) raised in the Shanti Bhavan school in Tamil Nadu, India, as they fight for their right to education.

As you may or may not know, the cast system in India does not exist anymore by law, but society and customs tell a different story: people from the Dalit cast (especially in the villages and remote parts of India) are still mistreated and their dreams shattered by something as simple as their last name. This is just unfair and we need to do whatever possible to help these children get the future they deserve.

Shanti Bhavan school’s sole goal is to help Dalit children get the education they deserve. They’re doing a great job raising these kids and giving them a chance at a better future.

On my 25th birthday, I am simply grateful for all that was given to me, especially my education. I wouldn’t be where I am today, a happy young woman with dreams and the feeling that nothing will stop me from accomplish what I want in life, if it wasn’t for the education I had access to. 

Think about it, that applies to you as well in some way. 

For this reason, I ask you to drop whatever you are doing now and think about what's led you where you are today. If your education has contributed even a tiny bit to your accomplishments so far, please donate so that Dalit kids can have the same opportunities as all of us.

All contributions matter, irrespective of the amount :) We just need to reach £250.

£250 will get a classroom at Shanti Bhavan School 10 fully operational desks.
