My husband Chris was diagnosed with Bilary Atresia at the
age of 8 weeks old. He was told at some point in his life that he would need a Liver Transplant. At the age of 29 my husband took really sick and was admitted in the Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH). Overnight Chris took two grade four brain seizure’s and was placed in an induced coma for nearly two weeks. Whilst undergoing surgery on his bowels the surgeons had to undo three twists. There was little hope of Chris making a recovery, however after this operation Chris regained
consciousness and his health started to improve on a daily basis. Although it was at this point we were told that his liver had suffered severe damage and he would now be placed on the transplant list.
After waiting for 8 months on the 20th July 2017 Chris now aged 30 received that very important phone call and we both flew over to Kings College London. Thankfully we were one of the lucky ones and the transplant was a success. We then were flown back to the Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH) in Belfast where Chris was looked after and accessed for another two weeks before being allowed home. Chis still attends the Royal quiet frequently but he’s making good recovery and is getting stronger every day. Chris and I would now like to give back to some of the charity groups which helped us along the way.
One of these charities was N.I Liver Support Group which
helps patients and their families before, during and after their transplant. They also promote organ donation throughout N.I. They are run by a group of volunteers and all of the money donated to this charity goes to improving facilities’, supporting patients and their families and raising organ donation awareness and works to remove the stigma around liver disease and organ donation. It is only through organ donation Chris has
been given a second chance of life, as a number of people die while waiting on a transplant we want to raise awareness of organ donating and encourage people to join the organ donor list.
We would be grateful if you could donate in any way possible
as organ donation could affect any family.
