Story

Over 3 days from 30th April Alex and I will take part in a fell running race in the Lake District. We'll be hiking/running between 60km (with 3,000m ascent) and 78km (with 5,000m ascent) over the 3 days while camping in between. We are raising money for FIGO to help support women and children currently suffering the unbearable conflict in Ukraine. Please read more below about their amazing work.

Thank you so much for any donations you can kindly give.

Becca & Alex

The war in Ukraine poses extreme risks to civilians, in particular to women and children. More than 2.5 million people have been displaced by the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation. This figure could rise to as many as 4 million. Among these are around 80,000 women expected to give birth in the next three months. In partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and NGOs working in Ukraine and Poland, FIGO is raising funds to support the essential health care needs of pregnant women affected by the conflict.Your donation will go towards the purchase of emergency medical supplies and care packages that will be sent to Ukraine and surrounding countries. As little as $14 will purchase a dignity kit, containing items such as underwear, toothbrushes and detergent. $250 will purchase a midwifery kit to aid with childbirth. $2,000 will provide equipment for up to 200 safe births.

About the charity

FIGO’s strength comes from our world-renowned experts, whose knowledge and experience in all aspects of women’s health help shape best practice and innovation. As the Global Voice for Women’s Health, we believe that how a country looks after its women and children demonstrates how that country values its future prosperity. Ultimately, our goal is to improve the health of women and newborns by achieving universal health coverage and wellbeing and access to quality sexual and reproductive health and rights for all women everywhere. With an ambitious work plan, FIGO looks forward to working together with our 132 National Member Societies and partners to achieve our strategic objectives. Our cause could not be more important, nor our commitment more ambitious. FIGO pursues its mission through advocacy, programmatic activities, capacity strengthening of Member Societies, education and training. This mission encompasses the implementation of global projects on specific women's health issues. In addition, our specialist Committees and Working Groups embrace many aspects of obstetrics and gynaecology including oncology, perinatal health, education, safe motherhood, medical terminology, new technology, the pathology of the breast and ethics. We actively collaborate with many other national, regional and global organisations to promote the health and wellbeing of women and to raise the standards of practice in obstetrics and gynaecology.
