Story
In celebration of my 60th year I have decided to challenge myself by joining the Conqueror community and “virtually” walk/cycle America’s historic Route 66 whilst supporting a charity which is very close to my heart. The route starts at Chicago and crosses the country finishing at Los Angeles, some 3,669.8 kilometres. When I am unable to get out and walk or tandem cycle, I shall pound out the kilometres on my treadmill whilst listening to books or music. The charity I am supporting is InFocus, my former school in Exeter, which supports, young people with sight loss and other complex needs. When I attended the school in the 1970s its sole purpose was to support children with a visual impairment. Nowadays, the school's scope has expanded to support young people with a diverse range of needs and the money raised will enable the school to provide stimulating educational and leisure activities which will assist the young people in later life to integrate and contribute to society. I have committed to donate to InFocus £5 for every 100 kilometres completed and although I had not intended others to sponsor me, several family members, friends and colleagues have suggested a Just Giving page.
I, on behalf of InFocus, would welcome any donation, no matter how small, in support of this amazing organisation. I started my challenge on 2 January 2022 and intend to keep this page open until 31 December 2022 or when I finish the challenge if before that date (unlikely LOL). If anyone would like to join me when out walking or cycling this year, I would be grateful for the company, we travel extensively throughout the country in our motorhome. I will be posting regular updates to show my progress along the way. Thanks to all for your support. My greatest thanks, as always, goes to John, who supports me throughout all of my crazy ideas. (well most of them - he won't let me wing walk!)
