Every Life Matters aims to reduce deaths by suicide in Cumbria through training, awareness raising and development of a network of Suicide Safer Communities across the County. We also provide support to individuals and communities bereaved and affected by suicide.

Story

The statistics regarding suicide is frightening. Last year we lost my best friend of 20 + years. Stu had battled for over a year, suffering tremendous grief because of the sudden loss of his fiancée Megan in March 2020. They were an incredible couple and his life was suddenly turned upside down. Even though he was in so much pain he shielded the true extent of his anguish from everyone. In the end all Stu wanted was his soul mate. Myself and Stu were passionate about charity and during Lockdown in 2020 we raised over £4,500 for the NHS Cardiology department in Megan’s memory. We often spoke about doing the 3 peaks challenge…. Sadly we never got to fulfil that ambition.

A group of Stu’s closest friends including myself will take on the 3 peaks (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike & Snowden) on Easter weekend 8th April 2023. This gives us a long enough time to prepare and of course raise funds for this incredible charity! We aim to complete the challenge over the course of the 8th & 9th as quickly as we can, we’ll be starting at Ben Nevis working down to Snowden climbing one after another as quickly / safely as possible. Below is a short summary of how suicide affects so many people on a daily basis.

This is for you mate. You won’t be forgotten and you’ll forever be an inspiration to everyone who was fortunate enough to meet you.
