Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving papagers

we did it! MK marathon on the hottest day of the year!  Glenn 4.25 and me 5.37 thanks to everyone who supported and sponsored us!

Our lovely auntie Eileen passed away in Willen Hospice last year aged 67 on the morning of the 2012 MK marathon after a short illness.  She had a brain tumour. Glenn was running in the marathon and I was marshalling.  The weather was awful but seeing people running in Willen Hospice t-shirts made me think "Next year I will do it for Willen".  I couldn't even run a mile then.  I joined a beginners running group and with the help and support of other runners and Glenn I took the plunge and signed up!  I signed him up at the same time!

The care and support Eileen and the family received at such a difficult  time was second to none.

Hopefully we will make it round the 26.1 mile course.  Please dig deep and come and cheer us on.

The story so far...

We've been in training since before Christmas. We put our names down for the Fred Hughes 10 mile race down in St Albans in January but it was cancelled because of the snow and ice.  However, we did the MK Marathon Training - 10 miles in the snow!

We had more success with the trip to Barcelona in February. I hadn't run a half marathon before but I managed to get round without stopping and crossed the line after 2 hours 26 minutes. Glenn did it in  1 hour 58 minutes.

Training run today 3 March 2013. Glenn did 16.5 miles and I managed 14.5 miles eeekk! 20 seems so far!

The next milestone is the Oakley 20 mile race on 24th March. CANCELLED (bloody snow) due to snow, but we did go out the with Redway Runners and did 11 miles in the cold and snow.

Easter Sunday we're planning to do 20 miles and hoping that the weather is slightly warmer than it is at the moment.   WE MADE IT 20 miles today, the sun was out the sky was blue our running shoes so I do.  Ran from Newport to Caldecotte lake, met DLRR runners and then went out to Broughton, Willen and a long way back to Newport.  Still pinching myself as can't believe we did it.  Off for a ice bath!

Two weeks to go!  Had a lovely 12 mile run on Sunday 21st whilst others running London. Last long run!   26.1 still seems along way.    Lots of stretching and core now and staying injury free.  Glenn is just bobbing along he wants to beat 4 hours 15 from last year.  Hope the weather is kinder than last year!  He may change his mind!

Only 4 days to go - nervous and excited all in one just hope we make it round in one piece.  Weather forecast is good yippee.  Come and cheer us on.
