Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

17 members of staff from Glenn Howells Architects will walk 26 miles along the Ridgeway National trail - the oldest road in Britain - in 12 hours on June 19th in aid of Sense, a national charity that support and campaigns for children and adults who are deafblind or have sensory impairments.

As a 17-strong crew of hikers, we are working together to raise as much money as possible with the aim of crushing our £2500 target.

Meet the team

Areta Soare
Hi, my name is Areta and I recently moved to London. I'm from Transylvania, I do not like garlic and I’m not a vampire, yet. As Count Dracula said: "They say you are a man of good... taste.", so please be generous for a good cause!

Jonny Cardy
My name is Jonny. I once walked into a lamppost. Another time I walked into the Ladies bathroom and didn't realise until it was too late. Who knows what will happen if I walk 26 miles. I'm really looking forward to seeing some of the beautiful British countryside, please do donate what you can for a very worthy cause.

Dominic Ward
I signed up to run the Snowdon marathon 3 years ago and dropped out through injury and then the same thing happened with the London marathon last year ... I'm clearly not designed for running so I hope walking a marathon distance is more obtainable. Doing anything consistently for 12 hours would be a challenge so dig deep and donate to this fantastic cause.

Sarah Gowers
Hi All, I'm Sarah. I grew up in London and New York so currently enjoying
the small village of Birmingham after studying Medical Science at the University of Birmingham. I'm a prolific pizza eater, and would appreciate a huge pizza at the end of the walk, as well as your donations so please dig deep!

Jo Haden
Hi I'm Jo, the oldie of the group.  I love nothing better than spending the weekends in my walking boots in the mountains. I have conquered the 3 peaks, (separately, not in 24 hours) & now hope to conquer the Ridgeway.  I will have to dig deep, 26 miles is challenge especially due to my arthritic bad knees. I will be grateful if you could dig as deep as you can afford & help support me & the team to achieve our target.  Thank you.

Kirsten Smith
Hi, my name is Kirsten. 2016 has so far brought me many adventures: Kayaking, indoor rock climbing, snorkelling, visiting a bat cave via an underground river, volcano hiking, island hopping in the Philippines, lagoon exploring, regular walks with a grumble of pugs. Now it's time to take on the Ridgewalk for a wonderful cause. Donations gracefully accepted.

Maciej Gruszecki
Czesc. My name Maciej, although some of you find it easier to call me Magic. I started hiking for miles and hill climbing on the same day- well, almost--on which I started walking (shame, really, that I haven't done this for years...). And now I have a chance to use my walking for a greater good (if I can make it at all!) and I am excited to be part of the Sense Ridge Walk.

Yevgen Gozkenko
Hi all, my name is Yevgen but you can just call me Yev. Although I’m originally from Ukraine, I’ve spent half of my life up in Scotland. With that lethal combination, I became immune to “cold” British winter.  I’m also training to become a real life Steve Rogers! Don’t ask why, I just wanted a challenge. So if you guys donate, I will make the walk even more of a challenge and give myself a handicap. Suggest your ideas and I’ll pick the best one.

Matthew Westley
Hellooo, my name is Matthew. I love travelling with my camera. However, I’m a bit of a loose canon when it comes to booking flights and returning back with the same passport. My biggest expedition so far involved riding tuc tucs from New Delhi to Mumbai, India. I’m excited to be part of the walking challenge and meeting people along the way!

Louise Simms
Hi I'm Lou, avid gym bunny and a qualified Personal Trainer so naively assume I'll breeze this..... having said that, I'm not remotely outdoorsy! HELP! Definitely glad I have the backing of the GHA team and generous donations to get me through. Dig deep people.... I'm not wearing ugly walking shoes for nothing!!

Ben Round
Hi my name is Ben and I'm always up for a challenge for charity!  I also thought I'd share one of my particularly reserved pictures to encourage you to donate!!  But seriously, this is a challenging event for a fantastic cause, so please have a giggle at the photo, remember how lucky you are to be healthy and give generously! Thanks.

Rachael Foster
Hi, my name Rachael with two a's. Luckily I enjoy walking and being outdoors. My favourite hike is the Old Rag in Shenandoah National Park, Virginia. I am a compulsive backpack purchaser and my current collection totals 9. Excited to be part of this fabulous team and to be able to tempt blisters in aid of Sense.
Give a little. Help a lot.

Jaime Luaces
Hello ladies & gentlemen.
In a nutshell:
Spain.
Architect and time-traveler!
I'm clearly insane for signing up for the Ridgewalk....
I'd really appreciate if you could donate just to make sure I walk all the
distance.

Francesco Bonfanti
Hi, I’m Francesco, recently moved in London from Italy. I really enjoy travel and discover new places as much as I like trekking and walking, especially for such a special cause. I am looking forward to exploring the London countryside and breaking the record of my longest walk! Please donate and help support!

Rheya Mills
Hello! I'm Rheya, I'm not much of a walker, let me rephrase I don't walk, I drive to the corner shop. But I play netball and I'm counting on that to get me through. I am willing to go the extra mile for Sense…so please assist by giving generously or whatever you can afford, every bit counts. Oh! and wish me luck.

Jayne Higgins
My friends call me Lady J, I’m not really sure why or when this started Having had an early career in teaching and curating I now thoroughly enjoy cooking and cleaning for my crazy family. You may have seen me occasionally in nest, it’s a socially acceptable extension to my home life minus the laundry duties that I strongly dislike. I’m really excited to be part of the challenge and hope we can raise some serious money for Sense. I hope that you will all donate generously, I’m looking forward to the end and a nice cold glass of wine.
