In the 30 years since Meningitis Now was founded, we have funded research, provided support & worked to raise the public's awareness of the disease. Our vision is a future where no one in the UK loses their life to meningitis and everyone affected gets the support they need to rebuild their lives.

Story

Once again Fit Banbridge and G&L Consultancy Ltd have come together to enter what will hopefully be the biggest team in this year's special 10th Anniversary Bann 10k & Fun Run.

This year's chosen charity for the 10k is Meningitis Now.  In May 2007 Oliver Lewis, son of Karen & Alan Lewis G&L Consultancy Ltd, was struck down by meningococcal septicaemia.  After spending a period of time critically ill in the PICU of the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children, Oliver did recover.  However, it was not without after effects. Unfortunately as a result of the disease Oliver had to have both legs amputated below the knee as well as the fingertips on his left hand. Oliver has gone on to be a very happy, healthy 10 year old, taking part in many sporting activities including gymnastics, and is a member of Banbridge Athletics Club.

In the past, and no doubt in the future, Oliver and many others like him have had to turn to Meningitis Now for support.  This support can be in the form of financial grants, counselling, or advice and guidance. The work carried out in the local community by Meningitis Now is invaluable, and so it is vital that they continue to receive as much financial support as possible.

Please give even a little to this very worthwhile cause and help Meningitis Now continue to support people like Oliver be the best they can despite the horrendous after affects meningitis can cause.
