Story

Thankyou for taking the time to visit the dedicated Brain Tumour Alliance Australia (BTAA) JustGiving fundraising page.

Why Brain Tumour Alliance Australia (BTAA)? Simple; because BTAA supports brain cancer patients just like our mate Bullet, who was the most determined guy you could ever meet. Bullet openly shared his 'warts-n-all' brain cancer journey in his blog, The Tumour Trip.  I encourage you to pause your hectic life for a moment, and step into Bullets world. Sadly Bullet lost his 3 year battle and passed away in Febuary. Rest in peace mate, you will be missed.

The wonderful folk associated with BTAA all have a story that connects them in some way to brain cancer; either as a patient, caregiver, family member or friend. Now they freely volunteer their time to BTAA so they can help provide support to others.

BTAA do not receive government funding, and rely on the generosity of our community for support so they may continue their great work supporting the families and patients diagnosed with brain cancer.

Please consider digging deep and donating to BTAAbut just as importantly, we need you to carry the message to raise community awareness of the support available through BTAA to help take some pressure off those impacted by brain cancer.

The Global Solo Challenge is a single-handed, non-stop and unassisted 26000nm circumnavigation.

I will race Roaring Forty,  my 1997 Lutra BOC Open 40 yacht, against 27 like minded skippers in boats ranging from 34ft to 70ft. The GSC host port is the beautiful city of A Coruna Spain. Its a pursuit event, meaning staggered starts from late Aug until December when the thoroughbred race boats are finally set free. We should all arrive back in Spain within a few weeks of each other. First home wins!

Of course there will be many challenges along the way and just making the start line will be an achievement worth celebrating. Cape Horn is a sailors Mount Everest, but there are two other great Capes and a vast Southern Ocean to challenge us before we can tackle the Horn.

Please follow along the journey and share with your friends. I suspect most people have in some way been affected by cancer during their life, so lets do what we can to help BTAA help those families in need.

Roaring Forty will be proudly displaying the BTAA and Soldier On logos.

Goal: Promote awareness and raise funds for BTAA

This is the first of several events we will partner with Brain Tumour Alliance Australia over the next 4 years.

My warmup event is the solo Azores and Back Race. Leg 1 from Falmouth in the UK starts 03 Jun 23,  and Leg 2 from The Azores starts 20 Jun 23 returning to Falmouth. I then set off on a 2000nm qualifier.
