We manage a volunteer run theatre & cinema to provide entertainment for the community

Story

Many years ago the Sinodun Players bought the old Corn Exchange in Wallingford and converted it into the thriving theatre and cinema it is today.  But the 160 year old glass roof is now leaking badly (causing knock-on effects in the building) and we can no longer just keep patching it up.

We need to raise £550,000 for all the work required to protect our theatre for the future.

As most of you know, theatre has formed the backdrop to my life.  It has helped me form life-long friendships, has helped me get through some tough times ... and it has taught me an awful lot about presentation, team-building and leadership!  In an age where more and more people are complaining of isolation and loneliness, our theatre in Wallingford is a daily hub of activity for people of all ages.  Our workshop is a "shed" where the carpenters and painters congregate to put the world to rights and create wonderful sets.  The wardrobe team are masters of restyling and recycling.  We have electricians, projectionists, ushers, coffee-sellers, bar and box office people.  So many volunteers who find our theatre provides the friendships and sense of belonging that help to sustain them.

Please help me do my bit to ensure that live theatre remains accessible to everyone in our area for many years to come.

As part of our fund raising efforts, the Sinodun Players are taking to the stage in a 12 hour marathon show on Saturday 11th March.  As one of the happy band of performers, I'm asking for sponsorship.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The Corn Exchange Wallingford was converted from a derelict Grade II listed building into a theatre and cinema by the local dramatic society (whose President was Agatha Christie) and opened in 1978 by Sir Peter Hall. The building is managed and run entirely by unpaid volunteers for the community.
