Santa Fun Run 2017 · 3 December 2017 ·

Registered in Rwanda and Scotland, Children of Rwanda is a community-owned and led organisation that works to ensure children can access and benefit from their universal right to an education in a sustainable way. Accessing education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty in Western Rwanda.

Story

On Sunday the 3rd of December 2017, some of the amazing team at Gluru will be taking part in the Do It For Charity London Santa Run, taking place at 11:00AM at Victoria Park. We will be running 5Km (or 10km, depending on how we feel on the day and just how cold it is!) on behalf of the amazing charity, Children of Rwanda.

Children of Rwanda was set with the intention of contributing towards creating a world in which the children of western Rwanda can access and benefit from their universal right to an education. Due to how expensive it is to attend both primary and secondary schools in Rwanda, many children in impoverished districts are unable to go to school. The families of these children often face the unfortunate choice between funding their children through school or acquiring health insurance for them and their families. In some cases, these families are not able to afford either one. As a result, Rwanda has a primary school dropout rate of 24%, and a secondary school enrolment rate of just 28% (UNICEF, 2012).

There are too many children unable to finish or access education because of the financial costs of public schooling, and Children of Rwanda is looking to change that. How - by tackling this issue through applying any donations that they receive towards contributing to either a child's school expenses (to sponsor a child through primary school, it costs just £10.50 per child per year & £65 per child per year for secondary school) or health insurance (£2.80 per person, per year). To find out more about this amazing charity, please visit their website at: http://www.childrenofrwanda.org/ .

Therefore, on behalf of everyone at Gluru, we would like to thank you in advance for any donations you may have made, and for taking the time to visit our page. We would also like to invite you to join us on the 3rd of December at Victoria Park to provide us with the moral support we'll so desperately need, to brave the winter cold and complete the course!

See you there!
