We fund sarcoma research and offer support to ensure patients get the care they need.

Story

Seven years ago Glyn had surgery to remove a lump the size of a coke can from his thigh. The doctors told us he had sarcoma, which is cancer of the soft tissue or bone – one of the hardest cancers to diagnose, and most difficult to treat. Sarcomas account for 1% of all cancers but 16% of all cancers in people under the age of 30. Sadly, the 5-year survival rate for sarcoma is not much better than 50%.

Fortunately Sarcoma UK is helping to change this. As Glyn is a long-standing trustee (and now Chair of Trustees) we've seen close-up the far-reaching impact of Sarcoma UK's work. This year alone the charity has committed £750,000 to research. Sarcoma UK also runs a superb Support Line staffed by expert nurses and works hard to raise awareness of the symptoms of sarcoma, as early diagnosis is proven to be crucial to survival rates.

To raise funds for Sarcoma UK, we're taking on a (entirely self-funded) trek up Mt Kilimanjaro this July. This should be a great experience but won't be a walk in the park: it will take a week to trek to the near-6,000-metre peak, sleeping in tents and with no showers! The temperatures, factoring in wind chill, can reach a brisk -25℃, and because of the high altitude, every lungful of air only offers up about half as much oxygen as at sea level.

Any donation to raise vital funds for Sarcoma UK would be a huge support to us along the journey! Many thanks for visiting our page - Glyn & Katy x
