Glossop Mountain Rescue Team are a team of highly trained volunteers providing a search and rescue service to lost, injured and distressed people within the Peak District area of Kinder, Bleaklow and Black Hill. The Team is available 24/7 and rely 100% on donations, which are gratefully received.

Story

We started planning to do the National 3 Peaks Challenge in January this year. This entails us climbing the 3 biggest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales. So this is Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon.

We wanted to do this firstly, to challenge ourselves. Secondly, we wanted to raise money for the Glossop North End Supporters Club charity, which is fittingly Glossop Mountain Rescue Team.

9 of us initially took up the challenge. Nigel and Lisa had to drop out, as Nigel has had a foot injury which will not be healed in time. So 7 of us started training. You may have seen some of us walking around the pitch, or trekking up Chunal with a hangover on a Sunday morning.

On Sunday 5th March, 5 of us went walking in the horrendous freezing rain, all suited and booted in climbing gear. Unfortunately, Christine ( who mans the turnstile) took a fall. She sustained a nasty lower leg injury. Ironically, we had to call out Glossop Mountain Rescue Team.

She was safely carried off the hills by these heroic volunteers, on a stretcher.

We will be eternally grateful to these people. This has made us even more determined to do our best to raise as much money as we can for them.

We are starting our challenge on July 30th, and plan to walk up these mountains within 5 days, 1 climbing Day and 1 rest day in between. We do not profess to be superheroes. We are all middle aged!!!!

So, if you fancy dipping your hand in your pocket for a cause very close to our hearts, we will be extremely grateful.

Obviously Christine has now had to pull out, along with her sweetheart, Dave (ground staff).  And then there were 5...
