Great North Run 2022 · 11 September 2022 ·

Far too many of us have felt the pain of losing someone we love. With your donations, we power groundbreaking cardiovascular research to save and improve lives, bring hope to families, and keep hearts beating across the UK.

Story

Thanks for visiting my page. I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation and I'd be so grateful for your support.

There I was lined up to run a half marathon because my good friend Chris (soon to be defriended) told me it would be fun, and a week before the event I get the news my brother Greg has suffered a massive heart attack and passed whilst visiting our family in Poland. He was in a place where he was happiest so we're all grateful for that small mercy, but feel for his wife Bernie and cousin Gosia who did all they could to bring him back before the paramedics arrived, without success.

For those who know me, running isn't really my 'thing', so the Great North Run is quite a challenge. Greg meanwhile saw nothing getting in his way as an active and principled trade unionist, Justice of the Peace, scout leader, fund raiser, community centre trustee, and more, all from the family home in Bourne, Lincolnshire where in his spare time he was a husband to Bernie, father to Michael & Richard and most recently grandfather to Edward. His passion for all things railway and an eye for a keen bargain further endeared him to all who knew him.

A paragon of principled commitment to the community his example follows that of our parents. This is very much for Greg and his family, not for me, but if my fundraising can help, then my discomfort after 13 miles will be more than worthwhile.

Requiescat in pace (he loved the Latin mass) Greg
