Story

--- Update - Mayur Rao - 20 Jul 2020 ---

We have smashed the £2000 target, having started with a target of £1000. The page is still up and running for any further donations. Many of the members have continued their exercises and are doing all they can to help the cause.

I myself have completed 94 days, and onto my 95th consecutive day of cycling daily, having covered close to 1900 miles and over 175 hours so far. I shall continue to the 100 days, and then close this funding page.

Thank you everyone for being part of this amazing cause.

--- Update - Mayur Rao  27 May 2020 ---- THANK YOU ALL ---

It all started with a discussion with my Son one evening, and went from us talking about doing 5km a day, to erm, why not ask around and see who wants to be part of it. Further discussions around how it would help many others mentally during these tough times, as well as motivate all to get up and do something for a good cause and get fitter at the same time.

Based on the above, initially there wasn't much uptake other than around 5/10 participants. From then on, after continuous reaching out, the numbers increased significantly close to around 30. We then agreed initial targets; 2000 Miles / £1000, to try hit that within 3 to 4 weeks during the lockdown phase, which allowed one outdoor exercise per day. As you will see from the updates below, we smashed the initial targets very quickly, and raised to £1500, then to 3000 miles and in the end the target was 5000 miles, and to try raise £2000. Unfortunately we fell a little short of the £ target, but it feels awesome, due to everyones support, contributions and motivating each other, kept us going, and we are all very proud of the achievements over the last month or so.

My days during the phase became a daily routine, where after breakfast, I captured the previous days activities from all the members, calculated where we have got to, got the amazing and inspiring snapshots, and updated the justgiving page, for all our supporters to see the journey, and to keep us all going. As well as doing daily comms to the members and on social media, to continue requesting donations and encouragement. Once this was done, it was time for a quick snack/lunch, and out for my cycle rides. Ive now cycled daily for over 30 days, which I don't think Ive ever done before. For me personally, its been very motivational and inspiring and has helped my mental state during this phase, where Ive gone out daily, and done something amazing for myself and the brilliant cause. I have been able to keep myself and my mind occupied during these tough times, and Im sure thats the same for many others, and thats thanks to the amazing members who kept this fundraiser going. You have all been very inspiring, some competitive, which, for those that know me... drives me even more so :-). I have also found my lost love for cycling.

I would personally like to thank every member (the 40+ members, young and old), who have "Gone the Distance", together, and encouraged each other during these tough times, and have all done something (whatever the distance) for this amazing cause. It's great that we have been able to do something, and give something back in the testing times, and hopefully whatever that has been raised will reach the rightful cause. This was our thing, not mine... you all made this the amazing success it was.

I would like to also thank everyone who has donated to the cause, on behalf of every participant, as they say "Every little helps".

Thank you once again, this journey may have ended but we are close to setting off on another......

------CAUSE - MEMBERS - UPDTES - BELOW -------

We've joined together to raise money for "NHS Charities Together" during this tough period of the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Our aim is to continually do a daily form of exercise (Walk, run, cycle, row) and to capture what distance we can cover during this period as a group. We have targets such as 2000miles to be covered as a group, but will continue beyond this to see what we can get to in the next 3 to 4 weeks..

May Update: As we have now done 2000 Miles, our next target will be to get to 3000 miles (minimum) within the next 2 weeks. We have also raised the funds target to £2000 (minimum).
11th May Update: 3000 Miles (achieved) target raised to 4000miles (min)

Anyone can join... and be part of this fundraiser. Please lets us know and I (Mayur Rao) can get in touch with you.
