Bike & Hike Across Wales
Following the cancellation of our planned 'Canoe Across Scotland' in May, we set about thinking of an alternative challenge, and eventually came up with the idea of a 'Bike and Hike Across Wales' , taking us from Dulas, in Anglesey, home of Tony's Mum and Dad, to Sandbach in Cheshire where John's friend Stuart lives. Both Tony's Mum, Julie, and Stuart have had strokes in the last year or so, so the route is symbolic in linking the two.
The route was planned for 29 Spetember to 2 October and would see us cycling and walking on alternative days to cover the 120 or so miles under our own steam.
Latest News 2 October.....
Well we finally did it - a bike and hike across Wales and most of Cheshire in the most Indian of summers. In temperatures in the high 20's for the first 3 days, we crossed North Wales on bike then foot and bike again, before walking the last leg to Winterley. Along the last leg we were joined by friends and family before meeting more at our finishing point, the Holly Bush Inn in Winterley - amongst them four very special people, Stuart & Jane and Julie & Colin.
We're now setting about collecting sponsorship money, but we'd like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your kind donations - at the time of writing our sponsorship total stands at around £1,750, but this looks likely to rise further towards our original target of £2,000.
Our special thanks go to our wives, Janine and Lowri, and also to those who joined us on the last day's walk - Jayne, Steve, Lisa, David, Nicola, David, Fred, Harry and not forgetting Nellie, Aggie and Harry the dogs!"
Every five minutes someone in the UK has a stroke. It can happen to anyone at any time in their life - even young children and babies - and the consequences can be devastating.
