HELP A POOR CHILD is a non-profit, voluntary organisation, founded in 1980, to provide assistance to children and families struggling in terrible poverty. Today, through public support, it helps children in different parts of Asia and Africa. With your help, it can continue to help poor children grow up healthy, educated and living near to normal lives.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2013 we raised over £5000 for Help A Poor Child.  This money funded, in its entirety, a school block in The Gambia, including a large contribution towards furniture and teaching costs.

Over 100 children have now been educated in this block but...as the school continues to grow, and new cohorts  come in, it is clear these earlier kids need to move on.

In 2015, a team of 6, known collectively as 'The Good Intentions' are taking on various challenges through out the year, in attempt to raise £6000.   This money will build a second block, for the original children to move into and continue their education.  It will also contribute significantly to increasing the size of the kitchens and other utility buildings.

The first challenge will be a 24 hours, non-stop 100km walk around the Isle of Wight.  This takes place on the weekend of 1st May.

Whilst I am a firm believer of 'Charity Starts At Home', this charity has shown how a real, purely volunteer based organisatoin, where  over 90% of donations actually hit ground, really can make a tangible difference to lives.   It is not a huge organisation , with offices and many activities across the globe, it is a small, family originated charity, with focused objectives, and clear targets, and transparent updates on their website.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
