Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Charlie is 24 years old. He fell ill in February of this year and began to suffer from intense joint pain, migraines, insomnia and general sickness. It wasn’t until April that doctors finally discovered Charlie had contracted a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer known as Burkitt Lymphoma, which by this time had reached stage 4. Naturally this came as a great shock to Charlie, his family and friends. He was forced to discontinue his studies at university and immediately began chemotherapy following his diagnosis. Although devastated by this news, knowing the true nature of his illness and the difficult times which would inevitably lie ahead during the treatment process, Charlie made a conscious decision to confront this challenge with positivity, strength, determination and conviction in that the treatment would prove successful to overcome this serious cancer. This mindset and attitude has served him well throughout several months of treatment, but as would be expected, there have been testing moments where the help and support of family and friends has proved vital, along with the incredible efforts of the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT). Although no longer a teenager, the trust provides care and support for young people aged 13-24 living with cancer, and as such, the trust reached out to Charlie after he first arrived at Manchester Royal Infirmary hospital. They have been a constant source of guidance, aid and support ever since. This especially proved to be the case when Charlie moved to the Christie hospital half-way through his treatment to stay on the teenage cancer ward, where he was able to make use of the magnificent facilities to spend time with his visiting friends and family during breaks in his treatment. Furthermore, he was able to meet and talk with his friends in normal surroundings away from his hospital bed when they visited in a special room designed by the TCT.
