Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Hi! I’m Grace, I am 15 years old and I will be trying to walk  half a mile everyday from August 1st 2021, until my 16th birthday (Nov.29 ‘21) for the ME Association. Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS) is a neurological disease affecting adults and young people from all socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds. In some, leading to long term disability. For many, ME is a complex post-viral fatigue syndrome affecting many bodily functions that can occur at any time. I have been living with this condition, alongside POTS-another chronic illness, for over 2 years (but only recently been diagnosed). Unfortunately it has severely impacted my life and often leaves me bed ridden. I’m unable to do the things I used to be able to do and currently have to use a wheelchair to get around. In addition, it has affected my heart and I have to take beta blockers to be able to function at all. Since developing ME my life has changed an awful lot and is unrecognisable from how it once was. I know, ultimately, I will get better but no doctor can predict when this will be… but it is likely to be months/years and sadly, there is no guarantee I will ever return to the way I lived before. I have set myself this goal of walking to try and raise money and awareness. Although half a mile may not sound like a lot, it will definitely be a huge challenge for me! It would be amazing if you could donate but if you’re unable - just reading this far is equally as amazing! Thank you so much for all the support I’ve been given to date. It means everything to me. Big hugs Xxxx

The ME Association campaigns hard to get ME recognised as a severe neurological illness. Our helpline provides essential information and support to adults and children who have ME/CFS, and to their families and carers. We also fund biomedical research into the physical nature and causes of ME/CFS.
