I am running the 2023 Great North Run because I want to defeat meningitis and septicaemia wherever they exist.

After having a personal experience with meningitis myself at the age of 10, I know how suddenly and innocuously this disease occurs. 

After a week of being poorly with symptoms that easily went unnoticed and then going to the doctors and being prescribed antibiotics. A day later I was found unconscious by my mum and rushed to hospital.

Thankfully, with the amazing help from the doctors and nurses I was stabilised and made a full recovery. However, this is not the case for many people suffering with this disease and that is why more money is needed to go into research for vaccines and medication.

This disease can affect anyone and the impacts are life changing. 

I am doing this as I know how lucky and fortunate I am to have made full recovery and I want to give back.
