Story

Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page. This year I will be taking on the Sheffield Half Marathon - on Sunday 27th March - in support of Genetic Disease Research at the University of Sheffield. Any donations are appreciated to help reach my fundraising goal!

Brooks Ward was diagnosed with COL4A1 shortly after birth. This rare genetic disease causes ‘fragile’ blood vessels and has affected Brooks’ heart, brain and vision. As well as causing him constant, painful spasms and a weakened immune system. Pioneering research into gene therapies at the University of Sheffield has the potential to treat rare diseases like COL4A1.

In the UK alone, 1 in 25 children is affected by a genetic disorder. Sheffield's research will change the lives of families who are desperately seeking a treatment for their loved-one. By making a gift today you will give hope to families living with the ongoing challenges of a genetic disease.
