Story

I am walking 107 km around the Isle of Wight with a close group of friends with the aim of raising money for a fantastic cause - Camp Simcha.

When our 5 year old daughter Gracie was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) at the start of 2016, our world was turned upside down.  Hearing that our daughter had been diagnosed with a potentially life-threatening illness was devastating and we couldn't begin to imagine how we would cope with the two and a half year treatment that lay ahead whilst caring for our two other children.

Camp Simcha came to meet us in the early days at Great Ormond Street hospital and it was clear from the very start that the support that they offered would be invaluable. The team at Camp Simcha includes some of the most kind and caring individuals who have supported and continue to support us through some very difficult periods. The children were introduced to their 'big brothers and sisters’ who visited them at home and made them feel so special. The art therapy sessions at home were the perfect distraction for our little girl whilst she was receiving her treatment and unable to socialise or attend school. She still benefits greatly from these sessions and the joy that they bring is evident.

Camp Simcha will do all that they can to make a distressing situation that much better. When the unexpected happens, it's so reassuring to know that Camp SImcha are there, whether it is delivering meals to the hospital or arranging a day trip for the boys' when mummy is not around.

Camp Simcha continues to be one of the greatest supports to our family during this journey and I would like to start giving back to them for the tireless work they put in not just for my family but every other family that is dealing with the effects of terminal or life-threatening childhood illness.

Camp Simcha is not one of the biggest charity and they require ongoing funds funds so to continue providing invaluable support to their network of families. That is why I am walking 107 km around the Isle of Wight to raise as much money as possible for this incredible charity. Please help by sponsoring whatever amount you can.
