The Graduate Communities Committee
The Graduate Communities Committee (GCC) is a fundraising initiative run by currently serving HSBC graduates from across the UK in the Executive Management Trainee, Management Trainee, HTS and Customer Propositions schemes, founded in December 2007.
Aims
The GCC raise money for a chosen charity and promote volunteering opportunities for all employees across the UK. The chosen charity partner must align with the GCC’s ambitions and in recent years, there has been a particular focus on helping children in disadvantaged situations. The GCC meets regularly to organise and run charitable events throughout the year, which are open to all employees and are promoted via the use of an email bulletin, supplemented by posters and graduate distribution. From time to time, the Committee may lend support to other good causes, provided they are in keeping with Group Core Values on Sustainability and Social Responsibility.
This year, the GCC has paid particular attention to increasing its coverage of business areas across the UK, with the creation of a network of ‘GCC Ambassadors’, in addition to partnering with Corporate Sustainability and increasing employee engagement. The GCC have also focused on the provision of international events and significantly increasing the size and scope of volunteering opportunities.
Chosen Charity 2012
The GCC has selected Fairbridge, part of The Prince’s Trust, as their charity partner for 2012. Fairbridge is part of the Princes Trust group and together they work with some of the most marginalised and disadvantaged young people to overcome their barriers and move forward towards education, employment or training.
The GCC has already arranged a number of successful events in 2012, including the Fairbridge Fitness Fundraiser, the infamous 'Stairway to Hell', quizzes and skydives around the UK and numerous sponsored runs. The GCC recently launched 'The Sahara Trek', which 100 worldwide employees will take part in in 2013.
