The Oner - Rab's Ultra · 9 April 2022

Dorset Search & Rescue were founded in 2004 and comprise 100 operational Volunteer Members. We are available 24/7, 365 days of the year, the team can deploy anywhere in the county within 90 minutes of being called upon by Dorset Police to search for missing vulnerable members of our community.

Story

In April 2022, I will attempt to run the Oner Rab’s Ultra-Marathon and I'm hoping my effort and undoubted suffering can also help raise funds for my Search & Rescue team,  Dorset Search & Rescue (DorSAR) so that they can continue to assist the Police in searches for vulnerable people. I've chosen the Oner as it's both local and because there is a connection with DorSAR.

The Oner takes place on the South West Coast Path in Dorset.  The race changed its name in memory of Rob ‘Rab' McAvoy, who loved running on the coast and was an integral part of the race, first as a competitor and then as part of the Brutal Support Crew.  Rab helped others achieve what he did in the race. In 2019 Rab went missing in Dorset and was later found deceased.  DorSAR assisted with the search alongside the Police.  I am raising funds to help ensure that DorSAR can continue to respond when needed.

82 miles, 9,000ft of climb, 24 hour cut-off, 50% success rate. Anything you can donate to DorSAR will undoubtably help push me forward.
