A big "good luck" to GRAHAM members Paul Mc Stay, Ronan Mc Bride, Tim Dodds Aidan Mc Ginley & Thomas Craven who are taking part in a Mizen to Malin Head charity cycle challenge over 3 days in August.
The cyclists will travel to Mizen Head on Thursday 11th August, from where they will start with a short 60 mile cycle on the first evening. This will be followed by three full days of cycling with the team planning to arrive in Malin Head at 5pm on Sunday 14th. Together they will cycle approximately 367 mile, climbing over 13,000 feet, all in aid of the Southern Area Hospice.
The Southern Area Hospice Services is a charity dedicated to the equitable delivery of specialist palliative care to patients who have Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease & Aids & to their relatives and carers.
Each year the hospice fundraising department has the momentous task of funding approximately two thirds of the annual running costs. With continuous increasing operating costs, the hospice has an ambitious fundraising target of £3 million. This equates to £58,000 per week, £8,200 per day that needs to be funded to enable the hospice to continue to provide specialist care to those who need it most.
Paul initially came up with the idea of the cycle in memory of his late mother, who passed away in the hospice in 2014. During this difficult time for him and his family, the hospice and its staff were a great source of comfort and strength. Paul and his colleagues now hope to raise funds to continue to support their great work.
