Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

How difficult can it be to write a few words - difficult.

Sitting here, typing, I am questioning life ... we all dream, I simply want to try my very best to make everything succeed.

I lost my Dad to a heart attack, he was my hero and inspiration. I lost my Sister to cancer, the most beautiful person that I knew, the person who taught me not to take life so seriously.

Last year, my Mum was diagnosed with a mixed dementia, advanced Alzheimer's and moderate vascular dementia. Mum, such a proud, strong woman. My Mum taught me so much (although I still can't cook!).

Mum has lived with us now for 2 years, the deterioration has been devastating to the family, every day a challenge, every day you fight your own emotions to try your very, very best to give Mum the best possible life. I'm not ashamed to say, some days I fail, I get it wrong, the frustrations bubble over and I simply want to escape. Time then passes, your strength re-builds and you fight another day.

I am passionate about doing something to fight this disease. I will be one of the walk leaders on the Ipswich Defeat Dementia Walk, 2019. A 10 mile walk around Ipswich. To add to my challenge, starting on 13th August, I am going to walk 10 miles everyday for 60 days with the final walk being the Defeat Dementia walk itself (hopefully, I will still be standing). 1 million steps to hopefully raise some money to go towards researching a cure for this disease.

Please, please, please, give generously to this cause. Help fund the much needed research. It is too late for my Mum and many, many others, but please help others in the future.

  • Dementia affects over 850,000 people in the UK and numbers are increasing
  • Around 38% of the UK population know a close friend or family member with dementia
  • At £26 billion each year, dementia costs the UK economy more than cancer and heart disease combined
  • £20 could fund one hour of vital research
  • £50 could provide access to specialist equipment for studying cells
  • £120 could support complex protein analysis

Thank you for reading my story.

Love to you all, Graham xx
