Abseiling the ArcelorMittal Orbit for Brainstrust · 28 October 2017

Wear Grey for a Day on 1st October in memory of our friend Shaun Skinner, and the thousands of people who have lost their life or are currently living with and affected by a devastating brain tumour.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

"Don't look down" will be my mantra as I take on the UK's highest freefall abseil on the UK's tallest sculpture, the ArcelorMittal Orbit in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on 28th October 2017. But facing my fear of depths (or heights, depending on your viewpoint!) whilst dangling from a rope 262ft above London seems nothing compared to what I imagine those people receiving the news that they have a brain tumour must face.

Two such people are friends from my youth, Shaun Skinner and Christine Pownall. I had lost touch with both of them for many years, but last year was reunited with Shaun through a Salvation Army Music School reunion that was part of his bucket list, and with Christine through social media as she made contact about a school reunion.  Both were living with brain tumours.

Sadly, Shaun died earlier this year, but I'm so pleased we were able to meet up again and renew our friendship.  I had no idea he had been so active in supporting others with brain tumours and in raising awareness and funds, not least by starting Wear Grey for a Day, and so I wanted to do something to honour the fact he had made such a difference - Shaun, I hope you would approve!

Christine continues her brain tumour journey, and I hope we will get to meet up in person before too long.

So please help keep Shaun's legacy alive, show your support for Christine and her family,  and give my dangling purpose by supporting this great charity.

Thank you so much!
