Story

Hi there,

I am taking on this BIG challenge for my 60th birthday - cycling 1000 miles in 14 days to raise much needed money to improve early diagnosis of bowel cancer through this great charity. I'm sure like me you have friends battling cancers or who have had their lives cut short by a missed or late diagnosis, or who have run out of treatment options.

I was inspired when I met Brenda Collins who had lost her husband Trevor to bowel cancer in 2008 as a result of missed diagnosis. Brenda has raised a lot of money through the Trevor Collins Foundation since then and raised awareness of symptoms and the need for early diagnosis.Your donation which will go towards funding a Bowel Cancer Screening Research  Project at Queen Mary University of London. Brenda Collins helped initiate this study and committed to raise £200,000. She has raised £170,000 to date and I want To ensure she reaches her total with your help.

My training for this challenge will mean cycling over 3000 miles between Jan- September and climbing hills totalling 145,000 feet just to be strong enough for 14 consecutive days hilly cycling and your support will definitely spur me on.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and for sponsoring me with this challenge.

About the charity

Trevor died from bowel cancer on 10/7/2008 aged of 63. If he had received effective screening, Trevor would not have had to suffer as he did. We aim to create awareness of the symptoms and of the need for effective screening. We assist bowel cancer patients in locating financial sponsors for life prolonging drugs not routinely available on the NHS. We offer support and counselling to bowel cancer patients and their families.
