Pedal Power 2014 · 28 September 2014 ·

Enhancing the care and treatment of patients accessing NHS services at Poole, Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals by fundraising to provide enhanced facilities, state of the art equipment and support NHS staff health, wellbeing and development.

Story

On Saturday 30 August 2014, we were all having a fantastic time together celebrating a family 25th wedding anniversary, less than 24 hours later, our dad/grandad was airlifted to the Critical Cardiac Unit at The Royal Bournemouth Hospital following a heart attack!

He spent two weeks under their care. He underwent numerous tests and had an operation to place stents into his heart. Dad/grandad still needs further treatment at a later date but for now was discharged home last weekend and is making steady progress.

Without the expertise of the doctors, nurses and the other staff involved in our dad/grandad's care we may not have such a successful story to tell! We are forever grateful to them and also to the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance Service.

In support of this great unit and the fantastic work they do, we (10+ close family members) are taking part in the 10k & 50k Pedal Power bike rides around the New Forest to help raise the extra funds they always need and to show our appreciation of the care they gave to our dad/grandad!
