A table full of food? A pile of presents under the tree? Santa and Rudolph? Crackers and mince pies? Tinsel and terrible socks?

Whatever the scene it’s likely you’ll be sharing it with the people you love – the ultimate reminder that Christmas really can be the most wonderful time of the year.

Now close your eyes again… But this time imagine yourself alone. No presents to be seen. No tree. No silly hats. Waiting patiently for a visitor that will never come.

Sadly, this is the stark reality for many elderly people at Christmas.

For half of the elderly population in the UK, the TV or a pet is their main form of company, and half a million will spend Christmas alone.

We at Mother think they deserve better… That’s why we’ve changed our name to Grandmother to raise money for Age UK. And why we’d love your support.

Food brings people together (and everyone loves cake!) so we’ve decided to collect and share our grandmothers’ favourite recipes.

We’ll be turning these recipes into cakes and delivering them to elderly people in the local community on Thursday morning. Over a slice of cake and a chat we’ll be asking them for their favourite memories, stories and recipes and turning these into a unique recipe book.

The oldest recipe book in the world. Something worth sharing.
