Bipolar Scotland is the national charity supporting people living with bipolar, their families and friends. Guided by lived experience - and with peer support and self-management at our core - we provide connection, resources and tools so that no one has to struggle alone.

Story

Welcome to my JustGiving fundraising page! I am running the 2026 Scottish Half Marathon for Bipolar Scotland in order to raise as much money as possible.

The main reason I chose this charity is because I grew up experiencing the impact of Bipolar Disorder through my mother’s illness. As a child, I witnessed the challenges and consequences that came with her condition, which left me carrying childhood trauma that has stayed with me throughout my life.

I remember seeing my mum cry without understanding why, watching her go on shopping sprees with little control, buying multiple versions of the same ornaments, and enduring periods of severe illness that led to suicide attempts and frequent hospital admissions. There were times when I was placed in foster care, and stayed with family and friends of the family. Much of my childhood was spent visiting my mum in the Royal Edinburgh Psychiatric Hospital.

Despite these struggles, she eventually received the correct diagnosis and treatment, which made a huge difference to her life. Although my mother passed away many years ago, I still hold her very close to my heart.

This year, I will be running the Scottish Half Marathon in memory of my mum and to help raise awareness of Bipolar Disorder. Through this challenge, I hope to support others living with the condition and contribute to the vital work this charity does in providing support, education, and hope to individuals and families affected by Bipolar Disorder.

They are a fantastic charity, and I would be incredibly grateful if you could take the time to sponsor me. Your support will not only help raise funds for an important cause but will also motivate me throughout my training and on race day itself.

Thank you for your support.
