JTYAF Triathlon and Loaded March · 31 March 2017

JTYAF's mission centres on providing opportunities and financial support to young people, particularly those who might otherwise be unable to pursue their ambitions due to financial barriers. We provide young people with the means to progress, develop and follow their dreams.

Story

Hello,

We are Grant Anderson, Joe Greenall and Tara Walsh. The three of us will be taking part in a Triathlon Relay and Loaded March around Loch Leven, Kinross, for the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF). Let us tell you a little bit about The JTYAF.

The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF) was set up in memory of John Thornton who was tragically killed in Afghanistan in 2008. The JTYAF supports young people from a wide range of youth organisations providing them with scholarships and bursaries to support their personal development and the pursuit of their ambitions.
Recipients of the Charity’s Young Achievers Awards are selected for their demonstration of the Foundation’s key values: courage, determination, unselfishness and cheerfulness in adversity.
Since its formation in 2008 the JTYAF has made awards to over 1100 young people which total almost £430,000.
In 2016 a staggering £100,000 has been allocated for awards which is an increase in the amount available in 2015 and will enable more young people to benefit from support. The JTYAF provides opportunities for young people to help them to develop as individuals and fulfil their ambitions in life as John was able to do.

We are currently undertaking the hard, gruelling and prestigious Junior Leaders Course through the Air Training Corps and as part of this course are asked to carry out a charity event to raise funds for The JTYAF, in return The JTYAF grant bursaries to the Junior Leaders course. This year the bursaries will send 10 QJL's on an expedition out to Ghana to help in rural area's and communities.

We took some time in deciding what event we would do until we all agreed on a Triathlon Relay and Loaded March. The three of us decided that Joe would take on a 4.5km swim, Grant would run 8km and Tara would cycle 12km. Once we have all completed our allocated legs we will then take it upon ourselves to TAB (Loaded March) for 10km.

However on top of this we have presented ourselves with a bigger and better challenge. For every £100 that we raise, Joe will swim an extra 50m, Grant will run an extra 100m and Tara will cycle and extra 500m. To add to this during our TAB we will carry the amount of weight for every £100 raised (i.e. if we raise our target of £1,200 we will carry 12kg) up to but not exceeding 15kg due to potential injuries extra weight may add over the distance.

We would like to thank you for taking the time to read about our charity event. It would so much to us to be able to reach our target but to smash it would be even better. Please show your support by donating to this outstanding cause and we promise we wont let you down.

Grant, Joe and Tara.
