About 18 months ago I went to my GP with what I thought was swollen glands. I never imagined how life changing that appointment would be.

I underwent a tonsillectomy, removing tumours in both tonsils and shortly afterwards started treatment for stage four cancer. Six weeks of radiotherapy and chemotherapy followed. 

With the treatment being located in the area we swallow, taking in even the smallest sip of water was extremely painful and challenging. My weight dropped rapidly and I needed a gastro/ nasal tube to curb further weight loss. 

After 12 weeks and just a month before the start of the first lockdown I had the feeding tube removed and was feeling very weak. I struggled to walk a few miles. I wanted to increase my fitness and appetite and started walking daily. Day by day I increased the distance and found my level of fitness improving. 

I would now like to thank the wonderful Beatson Centre in Glasgow's west end where I received all my cancer treatment by trying to raise money to help them finish funding a brand new MRI scanner. This scanner will enhance treatment, increase precision and considerably reduce the side effects of these types of cancer treatments. 

I am intending to walk the famous West Highland Way, wild camping along the way and carrying my own pack. A trail that goes from Mingavie in Glasgow to Fort William, through some of Scotlands most beautiful countryside and spanning 96 and half miles with over 4000m of ascent, a challenge indeed!!
