Story
Prostate Cancer is all around us … in the men in our lives, and because I want to keep raising awareness AND I am running a half marathon each week until GNR2024.(I started this page for GNR2023)
Unsurprisingly, that’s a total of 52 half marathons in 52 weeks. As of the 6th of August I stand at 51 out of 52.
I started this because my amazing father-in-law had his prostate cancer diagnosed too late and it had spread elsewhere. I subsequently tested positive and have fortunately caught it early! And another 3 members of my close family are also living with prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer affects 1 in 8 men (1 in 4 black men) in the UK. This reduces to 1 in 3 if your brother/father has it, reducing to 1 in 2 if your mother/sister also has breast cancer.
I’m living with prostate cancer and am asymptomatic Stage 2. This means that, through regular monitoring, I may never need any invasive treatment and I can live a full and healthy life; because I caught it early.
I’m trying to raise as much awareness and money to help fund lifesaving research and to support all men and their families affected by prostate cancer.
If like me you get checked early, you’re in a far better place to live a full and healthy life and to cure your cancer! Please test yourselves now before you think you have symptoms. Please don’t wait until it’s too late.
You can even find a test on Amazon like I did (Prima PSA Home Test Kit just £8.99). It looks like a COVID kit … and if you get the 2 red lines, go to your doctor straight away.
Thank you for your support and if this page does nothing but gets you and the men in your life to take a test, then my work is done!
Oh, and a final word … if you ever get a chance to run the Great North Run, jump at the chance, it’s fantastic.
