Story
Have you ever seen the film "Run Fatboy Run"? Well imagine that with an out of shape northerner who loves gravy and only used to run to the kebab shop before it shut!!
Well my name is Liam, a 39 year old Clinical Support Worker in Diagnostic Imaging at Peterborough City and Stamford Hospitals, who up until recently weighed 130kg (a lot). I decided for my 39th birthday that I would engage on a huge health kick, and in the 3 months since have lost 22.5kg, with so much help from Josh, Georgia and the team at EYRE Athletics in Deeping ...but also a lot of this was down to me discovering a bit of a love for running.
Which leads me to now, and this crazy notion I had..........I'm running the 2026 Great North Run for Prostate Cancer UK. Prostate cancer affects 1 in 8 men in the UK. That's one dad, partner, brother, grandad, or mate. I'm raising money to help fund lifesaving research and support for men and their families affected by prostate cancer.
Luckily I have not had anybody immediately close to me battle prostate cancer, however in my role as an Imaging support worker, I have been fortunate enough to be a small part of a wonderful team and service that was piloted at our trust. The Rapid Access Fast Track Prostate Cancer screening service was started in 2018 by the Urology team and has continued to grow and strengthen into the blueprint for prostate screening up and down the country. With many awards and accolades, the service has been pivotal in the early diagnosis and management of prostate cancer and having seen the positive impact the service has on not just the patients' lives, but their family, friends and loved ones .. I had to do this in honour of them and hopefully support them further in their battle against this horrible disease.
So please be generous, please donate to this noble cause...and please support me doing something that I never thought I would do ...Run Fatboy.....Run!!!
