Story

I'm running the 2026 Great North Run for Prostate Cancer UK!!

Prostate cancer affects 1 in 8 men in the UK. Alarmingly, in some areas, men in the North are nearly twice as likely- or even more- to be diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer in comparison to those in the South. Raising awareness is crucial to encourage earlier conversations, promote regular testing, and ensure that men know the risks, symptoms, and options available to them. Through this run, we hope to not only raise funds but also help shine a light on these disparities and support the life-saving work being done.

Prostate cancer is a disease incredibly close to my heart. I'm completing my PhD within a prostate cancer glycobiology research group at Newcastle University. We study glycans- complex sugars found on the surface of cancer cells- which play a key role in how tumours grow, spread, and evade immune system. The Munkley Lab uses this research to identify new biomarkers for earlier, more accurate diagnosis and to develop targeted, personalised treatments for men with aggressive or treatment-resistant prostate cancer.

I see first-hand the importance of early detection, timely diagnosis, and ongoing research in improving outcomes for men affected by the disease. Every day, I'm reminded how vital awareness and access to care truly are. I would really appreciate any donations, big or small, or even just sharing the page :)
