Right then people,
What started out as a fun trek across South America has turned into a disorganised event of certain death and destruction. Our 4000 miles across Peru, Bolivia and Paraguay are going to be a little more challenging than anticipated. Our mighty steeds are totally inadequate for the task in hand, break down frequently and we have to fix them ourselves. Apparently, topping out at 15,600 in the Andes was never in the design spec.
After the Andes the real fun starts. We intend to ride the Yungas road, also known as the Road of Death. This delightful little highway winds it's way around precipitous mountain sides and takes 300 lives every year. Next on the list is the Rainforest and all it's mud-road-based perils before we hit, amongst other obstacles, the Chaca Salt Flats (the biggest, most isolated salt flat basin in the world). We don't have a map yet!
Apparently, in previous years, this event has seen people tear tendons, break arms, smash collar bones, roll their bikes down 300' cliffs and be medivacced back to the UK. To top it all off Paddy starts the adventure with a torn hamstring and Gareth with a broken rib. What could possibly go wrong?
Our intention is to raise £1000 for Operation Smile and any extra will go to Help for Heroes - a cause close to our hearts. We have funded the entire journey ourselves so every penny raised will go straight to charity - remember to tick gift aid.
So, dig deep, dust the mothballs off your wallets and help our stupidty/ high chance of death raise some cash for good people!
