Lee (Fitzy to his friends) was an extremely likeable character, so full of life and so energetic and determined. He excelled at school, which was reflected in his GCSE results, and he stayed on to study A-Levels at Stanground College in Peterborough. However, Lee soon decided that A-Levels were not for him and decided to join the Royal Marines. A hard task for anyone, but when you know Lee and his characteristics then it wasn't a surprise to any of his family and friends when he passed into the Royal Marines aged just 18.
Lee served with the Royal Marines and had a very successful career for 7 years. He saw active service in both Afghanistan and Iraq and was well travelled, visiting such places as Norway for cold weather training.
In January 2006 Lee decided the time was right to go for SAS selection. Achieving a pass would mean he would become a member of the elite 22 SAS Regiment. Lee was loaded onto the summer selection course in 2006. Friends and family wished Lee all the best and were delighted when in December 2006 he achieved the ultimate goal in any military career, passing selection to become a part of the world's most elite fighting force. Lee was quickly on courses such as sky diving and boat tactics and was soon back on Operations, again in Iraq where he toured twice in 2007.
It was on the second tour in November 2007 that Lee was sadly killed whilst on a mission to apprehend known Iraqi Terrorists.
In memory of Fitzy, friends and family will be participating in the Great Eastern Run Half Marathon. The distance of the race is 13.1 miles and will be taking place in Peterborough on Sunday October 12th 2008.
We are raising money primarily to purchase a memroial bench that will be named in memory of Lee and will be placed in his home village of Yaxley, Peterborough. Secondly we hope to raise as much money as possible for Help for Heroes which I'm sure you will agree is a great cause.
Thank you to everyone kind enough to sponsor us for this event. We are all extremely grateful to you for helping us to raise money to remember our good friend Fitzy, who will be forever missed.
