Ben Molyneux - GNR 2026

Ben Molyneux is raising money for Alzheimer's Society

Great North Run 2026 · 13 September 2026 · Start fundraising for this event

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Hi everyone,

This September, I am tying up my running shoes to take on the Great North Run for the third time. While I swore last time never again. My reason for running this year will carry me through to that finish line again.

I am running in loving memory of my wonderful Nan, Janet Leggett, who passed away last September.

Towards the end of her life, Nan suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. Seeing someone you love face the cruelty of dementia is incredibly hard, but it has given me a fierce determination to make a difference. That is why I am raising vital funds for the Alzheimer’s Society, an incredible charity working tirelessly to support families facing dementia and fund research for a cure.

Some of you might know that this isn't my first time on the GNR course. Previously, I ran to honor my Grandad after he passed away from cancer. It felt only right, and deeply important to me, to run this year with the same dedication for my Nan. I know they will both be watching over me.

Sponsor a Mile in Memory of Your Loved One 🤍

To make this run even more meaningful, I want to share the journey with you. I am offering a unique way to dedicate my miles on race day:

For any donation of £50 or more, you can sponsor a specific mile of the Great North Run in memory of your own loved one.

I will carry their names with me on the course, and as I hit your chosen mile, I’ll be running it entirely for them.

Mile 1 to 12: Available for sponsorship (Please leave your loved one's name in your donation message - first 12 £50+ donations).

Mile 13: Reserved for my Nan, Janet Leggett. (Because the final push belongs to her!)

How Your Donation Helps

Every penny raised goes directly to the Alzheimer’s Society to help fund life-changing support and research. Whether you can give £5, £50, or simply share this page, I am incredibly grateful for your kindness, support, and encouragement.

Thank you for helping me honor my Nan. Let's do this!

Ben
