Event: The Great Thames Pedalo Challenge
We are calling on the Great British public to help us raise funds to help our older people in this time of national crisis.

Story

We are looking to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest pedalo across the Thames, which stands at 4 days and 12 hours. We will set off from Lechlade on the 17th September, pedaling for 4x 15 hour days, to finish at Teddington Lock on Sunday the 21st.

We are raising money for Age UK, which has recently issued an emergency appeal. Demand for their services is rapidly rising as the COVID-19 virus takes its toll on society's most vulnerable citizens, and your money can help Age UK provide friendly and reliable support to older people in dire need. One such service is Age UK’s Silver Line helpline, which offers telephone friendships for older people who struggle with loneliness, an issue that will only worsen the further we get into this lockdown.

Most people will feel lonely at some point in their lives. It’s a deeply personal experience that - in most cases - will thankfully pass. Sadly, 2.65m older people feel they have no one to turn to for help and around 3.9m older people consider TV to be their main form of company. Donating to this page will help the national Age UK to continue providing vital services that offer companionship, advice, and support for older people facing later life alone.
