On Sunday 14th April 2019, Dan and Bryce are running the Great Welsh Marathon, for CALM, The Campaign Against Living Miserably.
Both of us hate long-distance running - like properly, it's unbelievably boring and painful. However:
Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 45, and it's a societal issue which needs to be addressed. CALM are a great charity with the sole purpose of doing just that.
For whatever reason it may be, men don't seem to cultivate the appropriate support networks and and outlets which they need to navigate all of life's ups and downs. It might be that life is kicking a man in the balls for some reason or another, and there's no one to whom he feels comfortable talking. It might be that he hasn't equipped himself with the emotional language to even figure out why he's feeling as down has he is, so he doesn't know how to navigate these feelings. This allows depression and suicide to creep upon him when his back is turned.
Now, obviously suicide is a very permanent solution to a very transient problem, but without the tools to deal with it, it can come to look like a pretty good option. This is where CALM comes in. This is why we're going to run a marathon, even though neither of us are going to enjoy it.
They're a really great charity who we'd like to raise £1000 for, but honestly they deserve any donation you can afford to spare, even if it's only £1. Thanks very much.
