Greenland Trek in support of Polar Academy · 21 February 2022
With my impending retirement from my 27 year SJP career looming there is one last
adventure in store for me before I leave this March 2022.
Having worked closely with Craig Mathieson, the brainchild behind the Polar Academy, I
know what a difference he and his leaders can make to those ‘invisible’
children who are crushed by a lack of self-esteem and gives them a chance to
redefine their physical and mental limits.
Participants are put through a rigorous ten-month training
programme before being immersed in the wilds of Greenland, navigating through
some of the world’s remotest terrain for ten days. Their confidence soars
with every step.
On their return to Scotland, each pupil shares their experiences
with their peer groups, speaking to more than 20,000 school children in their
region. They are living, breathing proof that dreams are attainable and
that ordinary pupils can achieve the truly extraordinary.
This adventure will involve me and 5 of my colleagues following
in the Polar Academy children’s footsteps to experience what they have trained
for but more importantly to raise money to allow the Polar Academy to help yet
more invisible and broken kids achieve their true potential.
We’re tyre hauling, hill climbing and insanity training each week to build up our physical
and mental strength to cope with -35 degree temperatures and an inhospitable,
unforgiving but ultimately beautiful landscape.
Please take 2 minutes to watch Craig’s video that explains how
he transforms the lives of these invisible children.
Thank you for your kind support.
