Story

Fight4Hope has been set up as a Brain Tumour Research Fundraising Group by Amani and her family to help raise as much money as they possibly can to help fund brain cancer research.

Deaths from brains tumours are increasing and 16,000 people in the UK are diagnosed every year. Brain tumours are indescriminate and can affect anyone, at any age and it tears families and innocent victims apart. However, no family should be put in this position but maybe it`s because only 1% of the national spend is spent on researching treatment options for brain cancer.

My sister is a 23 year old battling with this devastating disease. Conventional treatment offered by the NHS was ineffective leaving my family to seek out and fundraise for private treatment in Germany for a trial drug called ONC201 .

On the 29th April 2020 our whole family’s life changed when my eldest sister collapsed at home after suffering a seizure. Amani was rushed to hospital and diagnosed with a a grade 4 glioblastoma multiforme mutation H3K27, a cancerous life threatening and inoperable brain tumour. The doctors gave her only 18 months to live. It is now been 17 months and she is still standing strong fighting for her life.

As the youngest sister I have witnessed her go through unimaginable pain, several seizures, being unconscious, panic attacks and mania episodes. All traumatic situations no child or adult should experience. The ONC201 is giving positive results as her last scan had a significant shrinkage but sadly, not all brain tumour suffers are not as fortunate in treatment options.

Despite the little research, my family have been determined to get ourselves heard. We started a fight4amani Instagram page with over 6 thousand followers , filmed podcasts, done tv adverts, done several fundraisers and filmed documentarys spreading awareness and now a walk4hope due to take place on the 25th of September.

Ontop of all this trauma I had to move school, however i met some of the best people in my life. We are going to take part in this walk together and raise as much as we can.

Brain Tumours. it is the deadliest of them all.

So Why have they deemed her life not as important to save as other cancer sufferers?

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease. We are a leading voice calling for support and action for research into what is called the last battleground against cancer.
