For most prisoners, the hardest period of their lives starts the day they are released. New Foundations is there to support those returning to south Hampshire. Volunteers come alongside the prison-leaver to provide practical help, emotional support and sensible advice - to help rebuild their lives.

Story

New Foundations Community Chaplaincy is a faith-based charity which first started in November 2019 at Above Bar Church with the intention of supporting and mentoring ex-prisoners.  Set up by people experienced in ex-prisoner work, it aims to train and support mentors in order to work with ex-prisoners to give them practical support, guidance and hope as they face the often overwhelming challenges of building a new life beyond prison.

With re-offending rates so high, New Foundations volunteers play a vital role in helping ex-prisoners work through practical problems like finding decent accommodation and accessing benefits to providing companionship and a listening ear at a make-or-break stage in their lives.  Every prison leaver has a different story but many of them have to try and overcome seriously disadvantaged backgrounds as well as mental health issues and addictions.  That's where NFCC comes in, aiming to befriend and support ex-prisoners through chaotic circumstances toward more orderly and stable lives.

All funds raised will go toward the support and training of our mentors to better equip them in this important yet challenging task of getting alongside prison leavers in the crucial months after they leave prison behind.  Please read more at the NFCC website below.
