The Last Ever GSC Grays Charity Rugby Match · 29 August 2019

Two Ridings inspire people to give, help Yorkshire communities to thrive, and change lives together. Since 2000, we have awarded over £19m in grants to grassroots community groups to strengthen communities across Yorkshire. We work with generous supporters reaching the people most in need.

Story

For the last 6 years GSC Grays and Genus have teamed up
to form an Agricultural Industry XV to take on Wensleydale Rugby Club in a pre-season friendly to raise funds for  local cancer support services and to date we have raised over £15,000.

This year, in what is the final match, we have decided that, following the recent floods in Arkengarthdale, Swaledale and Wensleydale, we will be fundraising for, not just local Macmillan services, but also for our local communities affected by the flooding.  The floods have affected large areas of our local dales; devastating livelihoods, homes, infrastructure, businesses and the stunning natural environment itself.   We would like to do our bit to help these communities get back on their feet as soon as possible.

The idea for the initial fundraising match came, several years ago, from Colin Lucas of Genus, who has himself successfully recovered from cancer and was keen to add his support to the hard work and dedication shown to him by his local Macmillan Cancer Support team.

The ‘increasingly ageing’ Agricultural Industry XV consists of a number of local farmers, GSC Grays & Genus employees and clients together with anyone else they can persuade, bully or cajole into playing!

After 6 previous matches the scoreline stands even at 3 games apiece…….so who will be triumphant in this final decider?

The match will take place at Wensleydale Rugby Club in Leyburn on Thursday 29th August 2019 with kick off at 7pm.  The Bar is open for business and the BBQ will be cranked up, so why not join us if you can for what promises to be an entertaining evening.

We are in the process of setting up separate on-line fundraising links for both causes, but any support, be it directly financial, advertising in the match programme or providing raffle or auction lots, will be very much appreciated. For further information on the event and how you can
