Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

I am doing this in memory of Ash Jones, who unfortunately at the young age of 30 was diagnosed with Bowel cancer. Ash and his family needed the wonderful service that St Helena Hospice provided.

We are joining St Helena Hospice in their Northern Lights Winter Trek 2019.

I never thought that I personally would require the facilities at St Helena Hospice. It wasn’t until November last year when my Husband Ash was diagnosed with Cancer that the process started. It was a scary time with the unknown ahead of us both. We were put in touch with the hospice to help and support us not only physically but mentally as well. Knowing we had somewhere to go and contact if needed.

Ash went through weeks of chemotherapy at the hospital as well as at home. Radiotherapy too. Trips backwards and forwards to Cholchester hospital. February we were given the news that the chemo wasn't working and the cancer had spread. It was now in Ash's Colon, Liver, Spine & Lung. 4 weeks later Ash passed away.

The last 6 weeks, Ash spent in the Hospice, where I was able to stay with him (Dog as well). This gave comfort knowing that he had the 24 hour care that he needed and that I could be by his bedside. They provide love, compassion and dedication to each and every one of their patients. I am ever so grateful for the time that we as Husband and Wife spent in the Hospice together and for the bereavement support that I have received since Ash passed away in March 2018. It doesn’t feel like a hospice or hospital at all, but a place where Ash was cared for right up until the last minute. Ash passed away 24th March 2018 aged 31 surround by his wife and family, thanks to St Helena Hospice.

I am doing this trek to give back as much as what St Helena gave to not just Ash but to myself too.

I will never forget the love & support that I recieved during the time Ash spent at the hospice aswell as after. I shall forever be grateful.
