Far too many of us have felt the pain of losing someone we love. With your donations, we power groundbreaking cardiovascular research to save and improve lives, bring hope to families, and keep hearts beating across the UK.

Story

I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation on behalf of Hounslow Wolves FC, and I'd be so grateful for your support. The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK, but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. I, along with my teammates, want to help to do more by raising money for a fantastic charity and increase awareness around heart and circulatory diseases in our community.

Heart and circulatory disease are subjects close to home as there are many of us in the South Asian community who will know a friend or a relation who has suffered from cardiac issues due to certain lifestyle choices and a drinking culture. It’s with this personal understanding that I’m embarking on this journey to raise as much money as possible to bring awareness to the disease and help the BHF fund new treatments and develop new cures.

Here are some key facts which highlight the importance of why I am fundraising for the British Heart Foundation and need your help. Did you know:

-There is a 40% higher chance of mortality from heart attacks among South Asians than the average population.
-South Asians equate to 25% of the world's population but will suffer over 50% of the world's cardiovascular deaths.
-In the UK alone, there are 7.6 million people living with heart or circulatory disease with over 100,000 hospital admission each year due to heart attacks – that’s one admission every five minutes.
-Those with a family history of coronary heart disease are also more likely to develop other serious illnesses such as vascular dementia, which is prevalent in BAME communities and often goes untreated or remains a taboo subject.

To put it into perspective, £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist. However, every pound counts so please give what you can to help me hit my target and contribute to an incredible charity helping countless people. Join me and let’s make a difference together! Thanks!
