I am running the British 10k on 8th July for Refuge in memory of my sister Ru. As you may be aware, we lost Ru in February 2012. My sister was ‘my partner in crime’ and my closest friend. She was inspirational, strong and a caring individual always there for others. I miss her dearly but she will always be with me in my heart forever.  

 

Why Refuge? I am running for Refuge to support the amazing work they do. I decided to run for Refuge because unfortunately my sister experienced domestic violence in her lifetime. Most people would prefer not to think about Domestic Violence but it is a real issue and raising awareness is vital. My sister often spoke passionately about helping others that had been affected by Domestic Violence, so on Ru's behalf I would like to raise as much as i can  for this worthwhile cause. This is for you Ru!

 

Refuge is a one of UK’s largest Domestic Violence charity offering an invaluable service to people in need. Refuge is committed to a world where domestic violence is not tolerated or ignored and where women and children can live in safety.

To put it into perspective the combined income raised by the two largest Domestic Violence charities (of which Refuge is one of them) raised £12.3m in 2009, whilst the Donkey Sanctuary raised £22.5m in the same year! (Refuge Website)
